Personal Parenting Insights and Observations

Listen

The most critical aspect of holding space for my child is active listening. Absorbing what she is telling me at the time without trying to think of a “good” response or any response.

Open

I communicate everything with my child. I tell my child she should never be afraid to tell me the truth. I tell her that no matter how bad she thinks the truth is, it is never as bad as a lie.

Hold Space

How you hold space for one child differs from how your other children need you to hold space for them. All things equal, you need to be there to observe each child, to learn and understand them to the best of your ability so that you can hold space for each one meaningfully.

Trust

Trust is a fundamental element in any relationship, especially in our relationships with our children.

Agile

Agile parenting is founded on the importance of parenting according to specific values that never go out of style (or shouldn’t), that, if implemented as intended, are universal and a good starting and anchoring approach to parenting.

Bond

The attachment we developed through consistent and responsive caregiving fostered a sense of safety and security in my child that was crucial in exploring the world around her.

Learn

Being able to stay home with my child has been the second biggest blessing after having my child. During this time, during the first year of my child's life, I started realizing the beauty in re-discovering and re-experiencing the most fundamental concepts of life.

Still

The notion that every moment must be filled with purposeful endeavors can get quite exhausting, but in a society that glorifies the "hustle” and the pursuit of success as a measure of happiness, moments of idleness are viewed as unproductive and not good enough.

Grow

My parenting so far has been highly intentional and, for some, maybe overly passionate. I’m OK with knowing that. It is also based on a learning and improving mindset with much room for reflection and adjustment.

Reach Out

Sometimes, we may be unsure whether and how to ask for help. That’s fine. The first step is always connecting.

So let’s connect—peer to peer, parent to parent, person to person.
